Campaign Trail: Campaign Website
Your goal for this activity will be to work together to create a website for your campaign. In your campaign groups, you should have started the period by thinking back to the campaign platform you came up with and choosing your top three issues. You will now be taking these issues, along with the core ideas we discussed previously, and presenting them online in the form of a campaign website. To start, take a look at these examples of presidential campaign websites: Obama 2008, Clinton 2016, Cruz 2016, Rubio 2016. Looking at these websites, think about how they try to represent their candidates. One thing you might notice: none of these websites spend much time talking about their candidate's views on policy.
You'll be going above and beyond these examples. In addition to including a few relevant photos, you will need to include a brief video where your candidate introduces themselves. You will also need to create separate pages for each of your three main issues (as determined in our warm-up), where you explain your candidate's views on that issue and come up with a few interest groups that might support your candidate on that topic. Each of the members of your group will have a different job.
Candidate: Your job will be to appear in at least four photos and a brief (2-3 minutes long) video that will be uploaded on the site, in which you present your campaigns ideas to the world.
Speechwriter: Your job will be be creating the script for the video your candidate is in and writing an introduction to the campaign website. The video should be 2-3 minutes long and include an introduction of your candidate and the issues you find most important. The website introduction should be two to three paragraphs explaining who your candidate is and touching on the other issues included on your website.
Pollster/Platform Researcher: Your job will be to create a page for each of the three issues your group decided to focus on. Each page will need to have a paragraph explaining your opinion on the topic, including at least one idea your candidate has related to that topic.
Media Consultant/Social Media Expert: Your job will be to put together your group's website. You can use Moonfruit, Weebly, Wix, Google Sites, or another website-building tool as long as you check with the teacher first. You will need to combine the work created by the other members of your group and put them together on this website.
