To be sure, the voices crying out for drastic changes in education are not a recent development. The world is changing at a faster pace than ever, and I feel that we need to do more to ensure we are teaching students things that will not be obsolete by the time they graduate. As Wagner, Richardson, everything we had to read in 422 before getting into this program, and most of the material we’ve seen in this class have shown, we need to move away from recall and into emphasizing greater depth of knowledge in schools, encouraging students to develop skills more than to retain specific information. As he shows in this talk, there are methods of collaboration and teamwork that would have been unimaginable ten years ago, allowing us to move beyond existing notions of understanding and communication. In my classroom, I aim to ensure that I do the same.
